Addlethorpe, St Nicholas

Addlethorpe, St Nicholas*

15th century ‘Cathedral of the Marsh’ retaining many original features, in a good state of preservation. Six carved oak screens, south porch notable for the level of fine detail both inside and out and unusually, retains an inscription recording the original benefactor.  ‘The Angel Roof,’ is the theme of our flower festival celebrating the 600-year-old roof that is adorned with winged angels, green men and many other curious carvings. The church tower roof will be open to visitors. The tower contains six bells all by Henry Harrison, 18th century bellfounder of Barrow on Humber. The bells will be rung throughout both days.
