Great Carlton, St John the Baptist

Great Carlton, St John the Baptist*

Within Great Carlton village, screened behind trees with a long drive, described in The King's England (1949) "... as having an approach unsurpassed in all Lincolnshire," leading to the car park.

The Mid Marsh Carltons, comprising Great, Little and Castle Carlton, have a long history with catalogued artefacts from CC on display in church dating back to the Neolithic Period. There will also be a display covering the 21st century discovery of a Saxon Island in LC called the Mystery in the Marsh and a display on the Mid Marsh Churches and Chapels.

A 10-minute walk away, on the path between GC and LC, there is the award winning graveyard of the now demolished St Edith’s Church, Little Carlton which is also the location of the Saxon Island.

On Sunday we have a service of Holy Communion at 9:30 am and visitors are most welcome to join us for the service and light refreshments afterwards.

Opening times 6-7th September:

Saturday 10am–5pm
Sunday 11am-5pm
