Raithby, Holy Trinity

Raithby, Holy Trinity*

The Domesday Book records church in the village. Current church dates from 12th century; restored in 1800s. Fortunate it was drawn (original held in Lincolnshire Archives) by Nattes in 1792, so we know externally little has changed since pre-Victorian times. Numerous detailed stained-glass windows, including one by Kempe. Chancel ceiling beautifully decorated. Bell tower home to ledger stone marking grave of village’s first free school founder. Tower has six bells, one from 1600s. Church is home to two species of bat, whilst graveyard has magnificent oak tree, as well as graves of (amongst others) a nun, Admiral and a vicar.
