Raithby, Holy Trinity* |
There was a church here in the Domesday Book. The current church was restored in the 1800s by, amongst others, Sir George Gilbert Scott. Medieval traces remain. From a drawing, dated 1792, we know that the exterior renovation was very sympathetic to its medieval roots. We have numerous stained windows, in fact only one in the nave is not. There is a window by Kempe. The beautiful chancel ceiling is by Temple Moore (on display we have a photo of the chancel, taken by/for Temple Moore). We have 2 species of bat roosting in the church, outside we have a very mature oak and numerous wildflowers.
