Hundleby, St Mary

Hundleby, St Mary*

A small friendly church. This is the third church on this site. The first was listed in the Domesday Book. This was replaced in the 15th century. It was rebuilt in the 1850s, after falling into disrepair, using some of the original Spilsby sandstone. This is very soft and much loved by masonry bees! Come and see the stained glass windows and single manual organ. Harvest flowers and local history displays.

Halton Holegate, St Andrew

A warm welcome awaits you as you visit the Historic Church of St Andrew, not only to view the wonderful 14th century building and the amazing views out over the surrounding countryside, but we also continue to display the many interpretive displays, guide booklets, children’s guides, and so much more, which have been produced as part of our recent National Lottery Heritage Funded project.
One example being the ‘names’ on the Halton Holegate War Memorial tablet that have been researched. The lives and families of these men, who gave the ultimate sacrifice, are now recorded on display boards in church.

Brass, silver and other furniture donated by the family is also well worth seeing as well as 15th century font. The tower fell down in 1972, the base still remains. There are gravestones peculiar to the Wolds area. Creation of a community space. The church is full of beauty and wonder.

Thimbleby, St Margaret

Thimbleby St Margaret (church's own photo),

This Grade II listed church was rebuilt in 1879, with the addition of a tower, apiol chancel and an elevated roof. Unfortunately, certain materials were used which have resulted in considerable problems, the major one being the failure of the spire. The details of the reasons for the failure, the raising of funds, the rebuilding of the tower and the replacement of the spire are shown in a photographic exhibition. There is a beautiful stone reredos, commemorating the last supper, and three interesting memorial windows.

High Toynton, St John the Baptist

High Toynton, St John the Baptist (early June 2025)

After the collapse of the Tower in Jan 2020, we are delighted to be opening a dramatically restored church, thanks to funders such as National Lottery Heritage and others. We are a Doubly Thankful Village, one of only 16 in England and Wales – where all personnel returned from both World Wars. There will be a display of the village history of this positive and cohesive small community through the years from Medieval times onwards, together with a Music Festival on the Sunday.

Ingoldmells, St Peter & St Paul

St Peter & St Paul is an early Norman Grade 1 listed church. The first service was held in 1205, but there are indications of a much older church. The tower contains a fine peal of eight bells.

During WWII Butlins holiday camp in the parish became a naval base, HMS Royal Arthur, where thousands of servicemen were trained.

We have a chapel dedicated to HMS Royal Arthur, where the memorials include a stained-glass window. The Norwegian Navy were stationed nearby and have strong links with the church; we have a photographic display about their time in the parish.

Hannah cum Hagnaby, St Andrew

Hannah cum Hagnaby, St Andrew

St Andrew’s Church is a Georgian, Grade 1 listed building of simple design, incorporating some reused masonry, which is medieval in origin. The church is surrounded by arable farmland and sits in an elevated position, which gives interesting views of the surrounding area. The interior remains largely unchanged since 1753, including its original oak-panelled box pews. It has a two-decker pulpit and an unusual three-sided altar rail extended in a semi-circle at the front, which is hinged and opens outwards. Cleverly built into one of the pews is a marble font.

Anderby, St Andrew

Anderby, St Andrew*

Parish church. 1759 and 1887. Red brick, with ashlar dressings, squared greenstone rubble, slate and lead roofs. This Georgian brick-built structure has an attractive chancel with five stained glass windows, including two in memory of Archdeacon Bond and his wife. The church was damaged by a bomb which fell in the churchyard in 1940. There is a 14th cross in the churchyard. But a must see is nearby Anderby Creek, a small hamlet built in the side of the creek that leads out to the sea. This is a quiet church but will have a lacemaker present with a 'have a go' pillow.
