Welton le Wold, St Martin |
St Martin’s has a 14th century tower. The nave and chancel were rebuilt in 1851, to a design by S.S.Teulon, a Londoner of French descent, who also designed the nearby former Rectory, and that at Tathwell. The font is medieval, smashed into two pieces, presumably during the Reformation era, but reassembled. It has an unusual counter-balanced timber cover. Two of the bells were cast by William Chamberlain of London between 1426 and 1456. The third is newer (1728). An invalid-friendly toilet, carpeted community area and kitchen area were installed around 2000. Organ playing and bell ringing by arrangement.
