Scremby, St Peter & St Paul* |
Pretty Georgian brick church with west end gallery containing Victorian glass. Internal panelling. Lovely rural setting. A church recorded in 1086 Domesday Survey. Between 2017 and 2018, archaeological excavations near Scremby revealed a 5th-6th century Anglo-Saxon cemetery, with a range of grave goods including jewellery, combs, shields and other weapons, in 24 graves containing the remains of men and women. Deserted medieval village of Laysingthorpe was nearby.
