Scremby, St Peter & St Paul

Scremby, St Peter & St Paul*

In a change to the published brochure, we are unable to open Scremby Church because of scaffolding within the Church rendering it unsafe whilst repairs are carried out.

Pretty Georgian brick church with west end gallery containing Victorian glass. Internal panelling. Lovely rural setting. A church recorded in 1086 Domesday Survey. Between 2017 and 2018, archaeological excavations near Scremby revealed a 5th-6th century Anglo-Saxon cemetery, with a range of grave goods including jewellery, combs, shields and other weapons, in 24 graves containing the remains of men and women. The deserted medieval village of Laysingthorpe was nearby.

Opening times 9-10 September
